MALTHOUSE MEADOW, SOMPTING

Malthouse Meadow in Sompting is a conservation area owned by Adur District Council, but managed jointly with Sompting Parish Council. Formerly part of a nursery, it became a conservation area when part of the land was redeveloped into what is now St Mary's Close.

In conjuction with BCTV (British Conservation Trust Volunteers), a section to the East bordering the housing was planted with trees to create a copse. The main expanse, which had become a haven for many types of wildlife whilst the land had been left in a derelict state, is managed to maintain a suitable habitat for wildlife and plants.

It is intended to add a notice/information board at the entrance to the site, and to do a more detailed study of the plant and wildlife. As part of this study we would also like to collect any information regarding past observations. If you (or someone you know) has any records, please email webmaster@bn15.co.uk with the details.

Below are pictured some views of the meadow. If you have any pictures you would like added to this record, please email us at webmaster@bn15.co.uk Click on the thumbnails to view the full-size image.
