TRAVEL

LOCAL BUS SERVICES are provided by Stagecoach South Coast Buses and Compass Travel. Most are local routes, but there is also the 700, which runs between Brighton and Portsmouth or Arundel (the former 702 service). Neighbouring Shoreham also sees services provided by Brighton & Hove Buses, and service 2 runs evenings only along the coast to Worthing. Pictured above left is a Compass midi-bus N150 BOF on service 14 at Boundstone Community College. In North Road, Lancing, is Stagecoach vehicle R707 DNJ, one of a batch of Dart SLF (Super Low Floor) bodywork. These vehicles, along with their newer counterparts, normally operate the Lancing and Sompting 7/7A services, and the first to sport the new livery.

From January 2003, services 5 and 5A were replaced by services 8 (Lancing to Ferring) and 9 (Portslade to Littlehampton). In November 2004, service 8 was discontinued. Compass Travel took over the Worthing to Ferring section, and from 27 June 2005 extended it back into Lancing, although following a different route. In November 2004, service 9 was truncated to Southwick, rather than running through to Portslade. These new services are operated by standard single-deck buses. Services 7 and 7A operate in opposing circular routes to Lancing-Worthing, and continuing to/from Durrington as services 10 / 10A.

RAIL SERVICES are mainly provided by South Central, including Portsmouth / Littlehampton / Worthing to Brighton / Newhaven / Eastbourne / Hastings, and also the London Victoria and London Bridge services. Journeys further afield to Bournemouth and South Wales are operated by South West Trains, a division of Stagecoach.
